The table is made in shaped, bent and engraved brass. The precious embroideries evoke the sea bottom. The embroiderers worked on the traditional wooden frameworks with the sophisticated technique of the crochet (a needle with a hook at the end, diffused in the 19th century by the embroiderers of the French city of Lunéville); they applied the elements by working both on the recto, with needles of different sizes corresponding to the specific materials, and the verso, using the crochet.
After completing their studies in Italy, Andrea Mancuso and Emilia Serra met at London’s Royal College of Art in 2010. Analogia Project is the result of their creative partnership. Andrea is a designer with long experience in small and large scale product design: his visual language taps into irony and a sense of surprise. Emilia is an architect and a researcher specialising in 3D design. Their identity is founded on experimental methodologies, based on preserving artisan techniques along with implementing new technologies. Their focus ranges between art, design and decoration. They realise projects with a powerful narrative strength, and cooperate with design and fashion companies. Each project is a new chapter for them.
Pino Grasso’s Milanese embroidery atelier has become, since the 1950s, a celebrated meeting point for some of the most distinguished names in Italian fashion, looking for a breeding ground for experimentation and invention of new creative opportunities. Each detail becomes a vital element, just like each of the stones, sequins, amazing decorations which are being looked for, selected and applied by the embroiderers’ intelligent hands. Today Raffaella is working in the workshop alongside her father, taking care of all the steps of the creation process: from the first approach with the fashion designer to the realisation of a prototype, going through the draft, up to the choice of the materials and techniques.
