LINFA SERIES

Approaching the work of another artist with great sensitivity and respect for differences in creativity involved and remodelling it into a new artefact: this is the focus of Michela Cattai’s latest creations. The sculptures, all one-off pieces, reflect a deep love for glass, a material whose roots lie a long way back in the past but that is used here to express a contemporary language. It is a noble and intellectual process of recycling that has prompted the artist to give vent to a new desire for experimentation and to combine apparently distant materials in an innovative way, getting them to hold a dialogue with one another. At the historic Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan, she has collected the waste materials from other sculptures and taken them to a meeting with glass. The intention at the root of the Linfa series was the expression not of an aesthetic beauty, but of the nature of a dichotomy, creating a chromatic dialogue between the transparent and the opaque.
