Pinfold
Two sets of overlapping trays, with a brass base and a scagliola plate decorated with intarsia-inspired motifs. The difficult technique of scagliola, obtained using a gypsum powder deriving from selenite, has been present in Italy since the 16th century; Florence has always been the acclaimed capital of this art, which requires extreme dexterity and is nowadays mastered only by a few exceptional ateliers.
