Double Signature. A dialogue between design and artisanal excellence

Scacco Matto

The cabinet brings together the passion for graphics shared by both the designer and the craftsman with chequered and striped patterns that allow historical and radical design to come together in an unusual piece of furniture of great refinement and contemporary taste. The project required sophisticated craftsmanship and is the result of a deep connection between designer and maker.

“When I met Andrea, I was immediately fascinated by his precision, dedication, expertise and love for craftsmanship. And, of course, by his passion for graphic patterns! Checkerboard and stripes are my favourite patterns because they can fit the Viennese Secession just as well as the Italian radical design of the 1970s and 1980s. This strange combination led to the creation of a piece of furniture with deliberately unusual dimensions.” (Arthur Arbesser)

“Small cabinets are my favourite; Arthur and I talked about it, and I was happy with this choice. I was totally involved in the project—building the patterns by hand, perfectly aligning parallel and perpendicular lines was certainly a lot of fun for me. The project is Arthur’s, but considering the way he designed, conceived and decorated it, it might as well be mine. And this is what I appreciate the most.” (Andrea Bouquet)
