YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT

The cake stand is crafted in hand-cut solid wood combined with colourful stained veneer. It is a tray that always leaves the cake whole: the reflective inserts not only duplicate the cake, but create a repetitive pattern on the wooden tray. A play on the old saying, “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”, this whimsical cake stand replicates the image of the missing slice of cake as if it never got consumed. The structure is crafted in fir, while the surface has been hand cut and fretworked according to traditional techniques of wooden inlay and marquetry. This time-honoured technique, for which the area around Milan is world-famous, has now encountered contemporary design, with a joyful and ironic vein.
