The search for beautiful forms is an exciting activity that mankind has always pursued. Moreover, if – as it seems – our ancestors learned how to craft ceramics even before understanding how to bake bread, it is obviously because we cannot avoid crafting the matter that surrounds us to introduce new forms to the world.
Form and material, design and work, intuition and solution have therefore equal weight in the creation of objects, and in the search for the meaning that we attribute to them. This is why, with Doppia Firma, we want to once again bring value to the dialogue between designers and artisans, and tell surprising stories of collaboration. However, we have tried to tell them in a slightly different way this time. In fact, since the first edition, Doppia Firma has always evolved. From rare crafts to international designers, whether promoting regional craftsmanship or supporting the creative vision, this project has always intended to recount the encounter between creativity and know- how. This year we wanted to show how these encounters also happen outside the framework of Doppia Firma, demonstrating that it has therefore become a methodological reference. We have continued to commission exceptional works, as we have always done, but we have also carefully sought out objects or collections born spontaneously according to the ethos of the “double signature” – the respectful collaboration of creators – and included them in this selection. For its variety of materials, regional origins and expressive forms, this selection represents the most ambitious experiment so far attempted by us. It is a successful experiment, if success is based on the fertile dissemination of a good idea, when supported by courage and talent.
